In the forest glade above Värmdövallen, Hemmesta’s new water tower rises on two slender legs like a heavy, undulating vessel above the rocky terrain. Its characteristic shape derives from two cylindrical reservoir tanks and creates optimal conditions for water circulation in each cistern, while gently diffusing light and avoiding sharp shadows and corners in the precious rocky forest landscape.

The robust structure, made of in-situ cast concrete, makes minimal impact on the bedrock by anchoring into an optimized cylindrical service tower on the former site of a discontinued telecom mast, as well as through a curved slab that follows the natural slope of the landscape further up. The two legs are adapted to the site’s topography and together with the canopy underneath the tanks, they provide some shelter form wind and rain while creating a welcoming ascent toward the top of the hill.
